Top Dive Sites in Bali
Padangbai
The location of Padangbai offers one of the finest underwater scenery dotted with marine plants and animals. No wonder Padangbai is one the premier choices for the curious mind. The first attraction is at a site named Shark Point where white tipped reef sharks, turtles and big rays can be spotted swimming around the really beautiful reef. Apart from it, diving in Padangbai offers colorful landscape with myriad varieties of fish. Gili Selang, Gili Tepekong and Mimpang
Gili Selnag is a dive site for the inquisitive mind. Here, the growth of reefs is so thick that it blots out the sun-rays. Consequently, the marine life, which includes sardines, banner fish, batfish, sharks, baracudas and turtles is unusual and interesting. Diving in Gili Tepekong is an amazing experience, as you will witness some of the most enchanting underwater colors that you may not have seen in reality. The marine animals are varied including sharks, eagle rays, mackerels or jacks. Especially for the advanced divers, Gili Tepekong presents a mind-blowing adventure. The arrival of the current from the north makes the site an exclusive habitat even for fish like Mola Mola, white tip sharks, and stingrays. Along with Tepekong, you should also visit Gili Mimpang. Although the marine life is same, the currents are so rapid and changing that here, you can experience the ‘washing machine’ effect and you should always dive this site with experienced dive guide.
Tulamben
This diving site is a must visit because of the USAT Liberty ship wreck. Interestingly, when Japan torpedoed the ship during WW2, it did not sink but was brought to the Tulamben shore. For a decades, the wreck stayed there until in 1963 when Gunung Agung volcano erupted and drove the wreck 40 meters inside the water. From then on, divers swim around the wreck and witness reef and fish, which have made it their favourite retreat.
Nusa Penida and Lembongan: Manta Point, Crystal bay
When you wish to enjoy several diving sites in Bali, head to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. The sites are rich with vegetation that attracts awe-inspiring marine life. For instance, the Manta Point is full of planktons, which is why a host of manta rays are usually spotted here.
